VERY RARE – Revolutionary War Flintlock Musket Combination Tool (ON HOLD,MW)

Out of Stock

$265.00

Product Description

This is one of those Revolutionary War items which are almost impossible to find, it is a combination tool for flintlock firearms. They were manufactured by forging and machining, and it is probably British made, brought over during the Revolutionary War. The five functions are distributed among four components: cock jaw wrench and drift; small screwdriver; large, shouldered screwdriver; and priming pan scraper. The pan scraper is hinged at the center of the other three tools, which are arranged in a triangular configuration.

They were used on the Brown Bess muskets for cleaning and maintenance in the field, essential for keeping the standard-issue British military musket firing. There is one shown in “Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution” by Neumann & Kravic, but that one is not complete (see pictures).

Overall, this is a nice solid piece – it does not swivel and I didn’t want to force it. I think with a little oil and cleaning it might loosen up. Or leaving it just as it is would be fine for display It comes in the glass top display case pictured. This is the only one I ever came across.

Revolutionary War artifacts have always been difficult to find, and I am fortunate to have quite a few pieces in stock. With the upcoming of the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding next year, there will be a revitalized interest. Just about all Revolutionary War relics and artifacts will be in demand, which will only add to their scarcity and price. I am already seeing a substantial increase in purchases.
