This is what I believe to be an oval albumen photo showing a Civil War soldier in an infantry frock coat and forage cap. The soldier sports a goatee and appears to be in his forties. The sad fact is that he may have not survived the war. The photo is a very clear copy of the original tintype, probably onto a cabinet card, which may have been done simply for better display in the veteran’s parlor, but was also frequently done by the family when there was no other way to obtain an image of a soldier who had died in service.
His face shows good detail, which is usually lost when increasing to just a bust size view. The photo is on cardstock and the overall size with the frame is 8” x 10” (no glass). The backing is a paper floral pattern. The eyes in this image are somewhat captivating.
