This is a nice little religious book being offered, it is The Book of Promises or The Universalist's Daily Pocket Companion, being a Collection of Scripture Promises by S. Bulfinch Emmons, Boston: James M. Usher, 1840. Inscription reads "Adam Frink 85 years in life this 4th July 1865 to his dearly loved friend Major Alden Palmer.
Adam Frink (1780-1869) of Russia, New York, married Clarinda Smith, of New London, Sept 13,1812. Alden Palmer was of Stonington, Connecticut. Major Alden Palmer received his rank/title by “Old Military Company”. These companies were formed by local residents as a Militia unit.
This little hardcover book is in excellent condition, measuring 3 ¼” x 5” and having 128 pages. Religion was an important part of a soldier’s life throughout history. I discuss this in my book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items” (see pictures). This is a great personal item that would fit in with any collection.
