Offered here is an old glass insulator. It has a diameter of 3” and is 4” high. In raised lettering around the base is “Armstrong / No. 2 / Made in the U.S.A. 2357”.
Glass insulators were first produced in the 1850's for use with telegraph lines. As technology developed insulators were needed for telephone lines, electric power lines, and other applications. In the early1960's people began collecting these unique pieces and the hobby has been growing ever since. Others use them as accent pieces, book ends, paperweights, etc.
