This is another nice item being offered, it is a stereocard of the entrance to the Soldier’s National Cemetery in Gettysburg. From the series “Stereo Gems of the Gettysburg Scenery.” Photographed and published by W.H. Tipton & Co., Gettysburg, Pa. This is view No. 599 and the back has the Tipton trademark with “Established 1859”.
William H. Tipton was established in Gettysburg before the battle and was known as Gettysburg’s “Battlefield photographer”. He was photographing areas around the battlefield right after the battle and continued so with returning veterans and their families. In my book “Battle of Gettysburg – The Relics, Artifacts & Souvenirs”, I go into more detail on Tipton and battlefield photography. This is a very nice card and one of the more difficult to find (Free Shipping).
