This is another nice piece being offered, it is a Civil War soldier's iron Frying Pan. It has a diameter of 9 1/2" and is 1 1/2" deep. It is a heavy piece and at one time probably had a handle extending from it. It was recovered from a Union campsite at Bermuda Hundred, Virginia.
The Bermuda Hundred campaign was a series of battles fought during May 1864, at the town of Bermuda Hundred, outside Richmond, Virginia. Union General Benjamin Butler, commanding the Army of the James, threatened Richmond from the east but was stopped by forces under Confederate General P.G.T. Beauregard.
In my book "The Civil War Soldier - His Personal Items", I show examples of the different pots and pans soldiers used to do their cooking (see pictures). The pan is not chipping and is a solid piece.
