This is another interesting dug piece being offered, it is a 9” curved section of a Civil War musket ramrod. This pattern is not the typical style of Springfields or Enfields, but possibly an import like the Austrian Lorenz, or even Confederate. It was recovered at a Confederate camp in Mulberry, Tennessee.
Mulberry is south of Shelbyville and the site of a Cavalry skirmish in July 1864. The area seen a lot of troop movements throughout the Civil War. This piece remains in solid condition with no chipping or flaking. No doubt it was intentionally fashioned by a soldier to use as a tool or hook. Being one end almost comes to a point, I think a cavalryman designed it as a hoof pick for his horse. In my book "The Civil War Soldier - His Personal Items", I show a soldier-made hoof pick which was made from a horseshoe, it was recovered at Gettysburg (see pictures). A nice inexpensive and unusual relic.
