Revolutionary War wooden flat canteen with carrying handle, ca. 1750 – 1785 (SOLD)

This is another great piece being offered, it is a Revolutionary War Banded Sapling flat canteen. It measures 8 ¼” x 2 ½” x 2 ¼” and has a raised bung with the original cork still present. It also has a unique metal carrying handle attached.

The maker of this canteen had to be very talented to fashion this piece with so many curves. The raised bung with cork was not added separately but made from one piece of carved wood. Being flat, it made it easy to carry in a backpack or haversack. I have a very similar one of these canteens in my collection (see pictures). This is an honest untouched example of a mid-18^th century canteen.
