This is a very nice piece being offered, it is a Trade-Type Belt-Axe Tomahawk, circa 1750s. It is hand-forged and unmarked with an overall measurement of 14” x 4 ¾” with the blade being 3 ½” x 3”. It has a nice original wooden haft with aged surface, some handling marks, minor hairlines and wear stains. The blade has a smooth untouched surfaces, and a sharp cutting edge with minor nicks.
You will look a long time to find a better size with the original period handle. Wonderful seam round pole socket with square-head nails in top of handle. There are a few original brass tacks below the blade, which was a common practice during this period.
There is an identical example in “Revolutionary War History” (see pictures). This is a very nice example of an authentic Colonial/Revolutionary War Period Belt-Axe Tomahawk. Overall, it is a very solid piece. This axe is definitely museum quality or for any serious Revolutionary War collector.
