Revolutionary War Shoe Buckle, recovered at Charleston, SC

$95.00

Product Description

This is another nice piece being offered, it is a Revolutionary War soldiers shoe buckle. It is made of brass and measures 3 ¼” x 1 ½”. It was recovered in Charleston, South Carolina. These shoe buckles were worn by soldiers from the mid-17th century through the 18th century.

Charleston was a pivotal site in the Revolutionary War, most famously for the devastating British victory in the Siege of Charleston (1780), the largest American surrender of the war, but also for an earlier American success at the Battle of Sullivan's Island (1776). The city's capture in 1780 marked a major British success in their Southern Campaign, crippling the Continental Army in the South, while its earlier defense demonstrated early American resolve and strategic fortification.

In “Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution” by Neumann and Kravic, there are examples of these buckles. This shoe buckle is in nice condition and has kept its arched shape – there are some slight bends.  is a slight bend on one corner. It comes in the acrylic display case pictured.

Revolutionary War artifacts have always been difficult to find, and I am fortunate to have quite a few pieces in stock. With the upcoming of the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding next year, there will be a revitalized interest. Just about all Revolutionary War relics and artifacts will be in demand, which will only add to their scarcity and price. I am already seeing a substantial increase in purchases.
