Revolutionary War Fusil Socket bayonet, circa 1750 – 1785

$325.00

Product Description

This is another early piece coming out of a 60-year collection of French & Indian War, Revolutionary War, and War of 1812 artifacts. Being offered is a Revolutionary War socket bayonet, ca. 1750 - 1785. The overall length of the bayonet is 17”, with the blade being 13” and the socket having a 1” diameter.  Stamped on the socket is the number “7”.

It is an American copy of a British fusel bayonet. A fusil bayonet (or fuzee bayonet) was a type of bayonet, typically a socket bayonet, designed for use with a lighter-weight musket known as a fusil (or fuzee). The fusil itself was often a personal, private-purchase weapon carried by officers or used during the 18th century. Having a raised collar at the socket joint was a popular American form

There are examples in “Swords & Blades of the American Revolution’ by George Neumann and “Collector’s Illustrated Encyclopedia of the American Revolution” by Neumann & Kravic (see pictures).

The bayonet is in nice condition with a very slight curve near the tip (hardly noticeable). This collection began in the late 1950s and was created by private acquisitions, diggers, closed museums, and from lake divers.

Revolutionary War artifacts have always been difficult to find, and I am fortunate to have quite a few pieces in stock. With the upcoming of the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding next year, there will be a revitalized interest. Just about all Revolutionary War relics and artifacts will be in demand, which will only add to their scarcity and price. I am already seeing a substantial increase in purchases.
