This is another nice piece being offered; it is a Revolutionary War button. It came off of a French uniform and it measures 16mm. It is made of pewter, and the front has a number “15” within an open wreath, which stands for the French 15th Regiment. There is an example of this button under “Rev War Talk” (see pictures). This button was recovered years ago at the Yorktown, Virginia Battlefield.
The 15th Regiment, also known as the Gâtinais Regiment, played a crucial role in the Siege of Yorktown, a decisive Franco-American victory against the British in October 1781, contributing to the capture of British redoubts and ultimately the surrender of General Cornwallis (see pictures).
After over 200 years in the ground, it shows its age, however you can still make out most of the details. It is a great piece of American History from the deciding battle of the Revolutionary War. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
