Revolutionary War American Punch Tin Lantern, circa 1760-1780

$335.00

Product Description

This is another nice piece coming out of a 60-year collection of French & Indian War, Revolutionary War, and War of 1812 artifacts. Being offered is a Revolutionary War Punch Tin Lantern. – often referred to as a “Paul Revere” lantern. It measures 13” high and has a 2” hanging ring. The diameter at the bottom is 5 ¼”. When opened, it has a tin candle holder with the remains of an ancient candle.

There is an example of this lantern in the Colonial Williamsburg Museum (see pictures). This is a beautiful lantern and only has some slight surface rust. The door easily opens and closes, and it appears this unique piece has been stored away for hundreds of years.

This collection began in the late 1950s and was created by private acquisitions, closed museums, and from lake divers. The collector meticulously displayed and cataloged every piece along with any known provenance.

This is the first time it has been on the open market, and it is truly a great piece of early American History. It definitely merits a place in an advanced collection or museum. As with all the pieces in this esteemed collection, a Certificate of Authenticity will be included.
