RARE – Revolutionary War artillery bar shot (SOLD)

Out of Stock

$685.00

Product Description

This is another rare piece being offered, it is a rare Revolutionary War artillery bar shot. It has an overall measurement of 12 ¼” and the ball diameter is 3.08”. The end sections have mold seams, and one has a sprue from casting. The overall weight is 9 pounds and 11-ounces.

Bar shots were used from the 1600`s through the 1800`s in naval battles at close range to tear through rigging, sails and masts, rendering a ship unable to effectively maneuver or escape. They were also used as an anti-personnel load with devastating effects. In the Fort Ticonderoga Museum there is an end section to one of these bar shots (see pictures).

It shows age and patina but in nice condition. I have had some bar shots in the past, and they usually sell almost immediately. I show one identical to this one that has previously sold (see pictures). This early bar shot would make a great addition or center piece to just about any collection.
