Rare - Original Revolutionary War Musket Oiler (SOLD)

Out of Stock

$235.00

Product Description

This is a rare item being offered, and something that you just don’t see. It is a Revolutionary War Oiler for muskets. It is made of brass and measures 3 ¾” long with a diameter of ¾”. The cork has a thin rod dropper for applying the oil. They were used to carry oil to keep the muskets in good working order.

The outside of the oiler has four small loops soldiered to the sides which holds the carrying cord.  It could be worn around the neck or attached to the cartridge box or belt. I show a reproduction of one of these oilers which was copied from an original and sold to Revolutionary War reenactors – it is made of tin (see pictures).  Apparently, it was designed from one in the book “The Packet II”, by Mark Tully.

Like I said, this isn’t very large, but it is rare and would really be a nice touch with any firearm or even by itself.
