This is an interesting piece which I had for over 20 years, it is an iron pothook made by a soldier. It was shaped into an "S" so it could hold a coffee pot or pot over an open fire. It measures approximately 10" x 8". It was dug in the 1960s in the Fredericksburg area.
It is pictured in my book "The Civil War Soldier - His Personal Items" on page 71. It is in nice condition, no flaking or chipping. In the book I discuss about how important cooking and meals were to the average Civil War soldier. It would make a great addition to a soldier's personal effects or in a camp display.
