This is another rare item being offered; it is an original pair of leather Civil War boots. They have all of the features that one should see in a Civil War pair of boots – concave and stacked heel, high arch instep, fabric inside boot pulls, square tapered toes and double row, wooden pegged soles.
When worn, the boots extend to about three-quarters of the calf. They stand about 12” high (the front slightly higher than the back) and the bottom is 11 1/2” long x 4” wide. This style of boots is in the Gettysburg NPS Museum and in “Echoes of Glory – Arms and Equipment of the Union” (see pictures). There are also similar examples in the Civil War National Museum in Harrisburg, PA (see pictures).
The boots are exactly the condition you want for their age, worn soles, tiny splits in the leather – all the signs of extended use and definitely seen service. These boots would fit in with any collection, the common soldier, Cavalry, Artillery, or officers.
