This is another unique personal Revolutionary War item; it is a wooden spoon used by a soldier. It is hand-carved and measures 7 ½” x 2”. It shows some honest wear as expected but remains a solid piece.
Wooden spoons and other woodenware, such as bowls and noggins, were commonly used during the Revolutionary War by soldiers. Due to scarcity, soldiers often crafted their own spoons from wood, horn, or even salvaged metal to eat daily rations. They were a standard, practical utensil for cooking and everyday eating.
Revolutionary War artifacts have always been difficult to find, and I am fortunate to have quite a few pieces in stock. With the upcoming of the 250th anniversary of the nation's founding next year, there will be a revitalized interest. Just about all Revolutionary War relics and artifacts will be in demand, which will only add to their scarcity and price. I am already seeing a substantial increase in purchases.
