Original pair of Civil War leather Officers boots (SOLD)

Out of Stock

$425.00

Product Description

This is another nice item being offered, it is an original pair of leather Civil War boots. They have all of the features that one should see in a pair of Civil War boots – stacked heel, leather boot pulls, square tapered toes and double row, wooden pegged soles. The bottoms of the boots measure 9” x 3 5/8” wide.

The body of the boot is made of three pieces. The front piece runs from the toe to the ankle and continues to the top of the shin guard. Because of the integral shin guard, the front is taller than the back. The top of the boots have a very nice soft tan leather trim.

The second piece makes up the back of the boot and runs from the heel upward 12 ½ inches and stops in an area that would correspond to the back of the calf. This back piece is sewn to the front along both sides. The front of the boots measure 14” high. The third piece is a re-enforcement to the heel section. This piece runs along the top of the heel from seam to seam and rises approximately 2 3/4 inches.

This style of boots is in the Gettysburg NPS Museum and in “Echoes of Glory – Arms and Equipment of the Union” (see pictures). There are also similar examples in the Civil War National Museum in Harrisburg, PA. Boots such as this would be worn by both officers and enlisted men.

The leather is in very nice condition. They have been tightly stuffed with newspaper to keep their shape. It appears it has been in there for quite some time, so I just left it alone and did not remove it. They would make a great addition to any Civil War collection.
