Original Early Gettysburg-marked One-Pint Milk Bottle

Out of Stock

$65.00

Product Description

This is another nice piece being offered, it is an early milk bottle marked “One Pint Liquid / Gettysburg / Ice & Storage / Company”. It is 7 1/4” high with a diameter of 2” on top and 3” on the base. In raised lettering is “One Pint Liquid / Gettysburg / Ice & Storage / Company”.

During the late 19th century and the early 20th century, there was an area north of downtown Gettysburg known as the Ice House Complex. Within the complex was the Adams County Cold Storage Company, which had taken over the foundry land, but eventually lost it due to the success of Gettysburg Ice and Storage Company. The successful business included many facilities, including ice machines, ice tanks, cold storage, milk, and an ice cream factory.

This bottle is in excellent condition, no flea bites, chips or cracks. I myself have always had a fondness for these pieces and have allocated a good portion of my book “Battle of Gettysburg – The Relics, Artifacts & Souvenirs” to their history (see pictures). This is a nicely marked early Gettysburg piece.
