This is truly a unique item being offered and seldom becomes available; it is an original hand-rolled Civil War soldier’s cigar. It measures 5” long. This one is from South Carolina and came out of an old period wooden box which had a Palmetto tree on it and marked with “CIGARS” (see pictures). I had a couple of cigars that came out of that box.
In my recent book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”, I go into more details about the importance of tobacco to the soldier and show similar examples (see pictures). Also, in just about every Civil War Museum, you will find these cigars, the Fredericksburg National Park Museum, Gettysburg Museum, National Civil War Museum, etc. (see pictures).
Like I said, this is an opportunity to add a neat piece to your collection – I only came across a handful of these cigars in the past 25+ years. It is stiff, but still intact and remains in excellent condition, comes in the glass top display case pictured.
