Original Civil War non-dug Officer's Rifleman "R" button (SOLD)

This is another beautiful original Civil War button being offered, it is a coat-size Officer’s “R” button, the “R” to designate rifleman, measuring 23mm. It has a tight standup shank and the backmark: “D EVANS & CO / ATTLEBORO MASS”, circa 1850s – 1865. D. Evans took over the bankrupt R & W Robinson company ca 1848.

Often people only consider these buttons as used only by the Union but if you ever go through the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond Virginia you will see that many of the Confederate coats also had these buttons on them because that’s what they had in their possession when the war broke out. This button is just about in mint condition, very bright and no tarnish. It would be impossible to upgrade.
