This is another nice item being offered, it is an original leather Civil War pistol cartridge box, measuring 6 1/4" x 4 1/2" x 1 1/2”. Embossed on the front flap below the copper rivet is “J. DAVY, NEWARK, NJ". There is also a very faint marking on the outer flap, but I cannot make it out.
When the outer flap is opened there are two compartments, separated by leather pieces. The latch tab is complete and held in place with single row of stitching arched over a rivet. The back has both belt loops, which are stitched and riveted. The brass finial is present on the bottom.
These boxes would be used by Cavalrymen, officers, and some Artillerymen. Overall, this is a very nice representation. There is some slight crazing as expected, but the stitching is fine. These boxes go great next to a Civil War revolver.
