Original Civil War Leather Holster fits Colts, Remingtons, etc.

Being offered is a well-worn black leather holster, made to accommodate the Colt, Remington, and other period revolvers. The leather still shows the “profile” of a revolver cylinder.  The holster’s “pocket” measures 10 ½” along its front edge. Holster is made of black bridle leather. The flap is a separate piece and sewn to the back side. The belt loop, of which half is missing, was sewn, and riveted to the back. The leather closing tab was sewn and riveted to the underside of the flap but is also missing.

The associated brass finial remains tightly attached to the body of the holster. In the absence of the closing tab, two holes were cut into the flap in order to close it using the finial. The two different holes appear to be for different size revolvers; one for “Army” and one for a “Navy.”

The leather plug that originally closed the end of the holster is long gone. There are a few small cuts or holes in the body. About three inches of stitching in the trigger area have separated. There are no makers stamps.

It is in well-used condition overall, which is typical of a holster that actually went through the war and seen action. The entire leather body shows crazing, but despite the wear, this is an original, military-style flap holster that would display well with a Civil War revolver.
