This is another nice piece being offered, it is a Civil War era wooden barrel spout. It measures 8 ¼” x 2 ½” and has the handle to open and close the flow. They were used on wooden barrels, such as water, wine, beer, etc. These spouts were common in the larger Civil War camps, where they would be inserted in large water barrels that allowed the soldiers to fill their canteens.
This tap shows its age but is nice shape and the handle easily turns. In the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, PA, there is an example of this spout (see pictures).
