Civil War “US” Bridle Rosette, recovered Sherman’s camp, Goldsboro, NC

$55.00

Product Description

This is another nice piece being offered, it is an excavated US Bridle Rosette. It has the “US” on the brass face and the back has the remains of the lead backing – it has a diameter of 1 ¼”. It was recovered in one of General Sherman’s Union camps in Goldsboro, NC. This is one of the camps from after the Battle of Bentonville, NC.

The Battle of Bentonville, fought March 19-21, 1865, was the last full-scale action of the Civil War in which a Confederate army was able to mount a tactical offensive. This major battle, the largest ever fought in North Carolina, was the only significant attempt to defeat the large Union army of Gen. William T. Sherman during its march through the Carolinas in the spring of 1865.

In “Civil War Relics – A Guide for the Historian” by Howard Crouch, there are examples of this rosette (see pictures). These US rosettes are hard to find, and rare to dig.
