Civil War sword cut down to make a fighting knife

This is a very unique piece being offered, it is a Civil War sword or saber which was cut down and modified into a fighting knife. The overall length is 21” with the blade being 15”. It came out of an antebellum home in the New England area.

The previous owner feels that it was brought home by a Union soldier as a souvenir from a battle he was in. This was a very common practice with Civil War soldiers, especially with Union soldiers, to bring home a remembrance of their time at war. It definitely shows its wear, but overall, a very solid piece. It would make a nice addition to any Civil War collection.
