CIVIL WAR STENCIL SET WITH ORIGINAL INK, BRUSH AND BRASS STENCILS (SOLD)

This is another unique piece being offered, it is a Civil War era Stencil set with original ink, brush and brass stencils. The pan is two round sections made of tin and soldered together. The large bowl still has original hardened ink in it and the smaller one would have held water. Overall 7 1/2" long, with the larger section 4 1/4" in diameter.

The stencils are well used and each one having two letters. They are all there except for the “U-V”. There is also all of the numbers and the “&” symbol. In “Civil War Artifacts – A Guide for the Historian”, by Howard Crouch, there are similar stencils shown (see pictures). Just about all of the equipment and supplies used during the Civil War, came in crates and would need to be marked. This would identify the contents as well as destinations. This would make a great addition to a camp scene.
