This is another nice piece being offered, it is an excavated Civil War soldier’s pocketknife, measuring 3 ¾” x ¾” . Its grips are missing but its brass and iron frame is present along with portions of two knives. A raised shield is also present on one side. A very similar one is in a Civil War Relic book (see pictures). It was recovered from a Civil War site in the Williamsburg, VA.
This excavated knife is in fair condition and although it has been in the ground for well over 100 years, it is still solid. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
