Civil War soldier’s pocketknife, dug at Chickamauga Battlefield (SOLD)

Out of Stock

$55.00

Product Description

This is another nice item being offered, it is an excavated soldier’s pocket knife, measuring 4” x 1”. It was recovered yeas ago at the Chickamauga Battlefield.

The Battle of Chickamauga was fought on September 18–20, 1863, and marked the end of a Union offensive, the Chickamauga Campaign, in southeastern Tennessee and northwestern Georgia. It was the first major battle of the war fought in Georgia, the most significant Union defeat in the Western Theater, and involved the second-highest number of casualties after the Battle of Gettysburg.

Although the knife is rusted, it still has the blades inside and is pretty solid -  has been coated for preservation.  Just about every soldier had a pocketknife. It was a tool that was extremely important to him. In my book “Battle of Gettysburg – The Relics, Artifacts & Souvenirs”, I show these knives and go into more details on their importance (see pictures). It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
