Civil War Soldier's Brass Stencil, 29th NYVI (SOLD)

This is another nice item being offered, it is a brass stencil marked “A. Hartmann”, who is identified as Private Abbott Hartmann, measuring 2 ¾” x 1 ¼”. Thirty-six year old Hartmann enlisted in New York City on June 4, 1861. He mustered into Company D, of the 29^th New York Infantry. I have similar soldier’s stencils in my recent book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items” (see pictures).

Hartmann was listed as wounded on August 30, 1862 at the 2^nd Battle of Bull Run. He mustered out on June 20, 1863. This unique piece was part of a large Civil War collection which I recently acquired. It comes in the glass top display case pictured along with the Historical Data System record. (SOLD)
