This is a nice Civil War soldiers pocket mirror being offered. It is two pieces that snap together – the zinc case with the mirror on one side. It has a diameter of 3” and marked with “Paris” on one side, which was just about all of these mirrors came from during the war.
These type of mirrors were popular with soldiers because of their size, and the small wire allows for it to be hung on a beam or tree. There are examples of these mirrors in The Civil War Collectors Encyclopedia, by Francis Lord, Civil War Relics of the Western Campaigns, and in most Civil War museums. I have one pictured in my book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items” (see pictures). Also, in the Gettysburg NPS Museum. Typically, they would be sold by camp sutlers.
