Civil War Hospital Invalid Cup, as in museums

$40.00

Product Description

This is another nice item being offered, it is a Civil War era Invalid Cup. It is made of white milk glass and the overall size is about 7" x 3" x 2 ½” high. On the unglazed base is a faint number 3710.

Badly wounded soldiers or amputees would have to be fed by hand. The nurse or orderly would fill the cup with water, broth or soup and slowly feed the bed ridden soldier by tilting it into his mouth, not worrying about it spilling.

There are examples of this feeding cup at the National Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick, Maryland and in the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (see pictures). This is a great piece and is in very nice condition with o chips or cracks. .
