Civil War era Cased Dominos, as in museums and books

$155.00

Product Description

This is another great item being offered, it is a wooden case of Civil War dominos, circa 1840's-1860's. They are in the period sliding-top box, which measures 6 ¼” x 4” x 2”.  Inside are 24 bone dominos with the period correct brass pin. Next to playing cards, dominos were the most popular game played by Civil War soldiers.

Evidence of their use is validated by the dominos left or lost in camps and other Civil War sites. There are also examples in The Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum and the Civil War Medical Museum (see pictures). There is also a period photograph of soldiers playing dominos on a table.

In my book "The Civil War Soldier - His Personal Items", I have a set of dominos pictured and discuss in further detail the games that soldiers played (see pictures). Having multiple dominos would allow a few people to play. These dominos are in nice condition and would go great in a display of a soldier’s personal effects.
