This is another nice piece being offered, it is a Civil War embroidered star. It measures 1 7/8” and is hand-sewn with false bullion and small sequins. These stars were available in the 1864 “Schyler, Hartley, & Graham Illustrated Catalog of Civil War Military Goods” (see pictures).
Also, there is a Civil War era tailor’s sample case containing numerous examples of sequined stars of various sizes and designs, all classic of earlier to Civil War use (see pictures).
These stars have been utilized by Union soldiers as Corps badges of the 12th and 20th Corps. They were also worn by Confederate soldiers from Texas, Mississippi, and Alabama (see pictures). In my book "The Civil War Soldier - His Personal Items", I show one of these insignias (see pictures). It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
