This is another nice piece being offered, it is a Civil War aqua glass inkwell, measuring 2 1/4" x 1 3/4". They are a common find in the mid-19th century and in Civil War campsites. This one was part of a Civil War collection, but no specific information on it.
There was a rapid increase in the consumption of ink during the Civil War, accompanied by the required bottles and inkwells to store the ink. This inkwell is in nice condition, with only signs of continued use.
In my book “The Civil War Soldier – His Personal Items”, I show an example of one of these inkwells from a Civil War site (see pictures). These inkwells go great with a display of a soldiers personal effects, (particularly nice alongside a letter).
