Civil War 50th Anniversary GAR cast iron Trivet, painted gold

This is a nice early Civil War veterans’ item. It is a cast iron trivet in the shape of a horseshoe and measures 6” x 4 ½”. It was painted gold for the 50^th Anniversary of the Civil War and shows the GAR membership medal with the eagle and crossed cannons and the letters “G A R”.

Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was the veteran's organization of the Union soldiers of the Civil War. In order to become a member of the organization you had to prove that you served honorably for the United States during the war. Having no manufacture markings suggest this was an early piece. It is a very nice piece and will enhance any Civil War collection.
