This is a unique piece being offered, it is the cast-iron top of a Civil War camp stove. It now has a diameter of 7”, but originally it would have had an extended handle for lifting – you can see where it broke off. The digger found this piece with several other camp items in a Confederate winter camp in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
In “Civil War Relics and Artifacts – A Guide for the Historian”, there is an example of this stove and what the top looked like (see pictures). Also, in “Civil War Relics of the Western Campaigns”, there is another example of this stove and lid (see pictures). Like I said, this is a very unique piece being offered, and it is the first one I have seen in over 30 years. It is pretty much a one-of-a-kind piece.
