Brass music holders, dug Jacinto, MS (near Corinth)

$165.00

Product Description

This is another great piece being offered, it is two pieces of a brass music holder. One piece measures 5 ½” x 2” and the other 2” x 2 ¾”. These pieces were found together at Jacinto, Mississippi.

Jacinto was located in the geographic center of the original Tishomingo County, Mississippi. Within ten years of its founding, It became a flourishing town with stores, hotels, schools, churches and taverns, serving as the center of government and commerce for the county.

Being that this area was not very far from Corinth, it had both Union and Confederate troops going through the area. A skirmish occurred on September 7, 1863, in Jacinto between Confederate and Union Cavalry during the Civil War.

Music was a major part to the Civil War soldier, with just about every regiment having some type of musicians. Some of the larger units would have bands which were a great inspiration and would motivate soldiers while going into battle.

The music holder is in nice condition with a great untouched patina. They are rare but dug examples do show up at Civil War sites as can be seen in the many relic books (see pictures), This is an excellent opportunity to add a unique piece to your collection. It comes in the glass top display case pictured.
